Did you know that over 1.5 billion pairs of shoes lay idle in American closets-many of which can be saved from landfills by donating them? Over 300 million children around the world are without shoes.
Soles4souls has given away over 10 million pairs of shoes through it's five year history, currently delivering a pair every nine seconds.
After being inspired by a message at church on "Community", this fall our family haeded up a shoe drive in our community. I had heard of this charity before and often received e mails from them. The e mail that I received that week said something to the effect of "Can you host a shoe drive in your community"? I responded to the e mail and then began promoting the shoe drive. We did it over the span of two weeks, and the kids were involved in every part of the process. From hanging the posters to boxing up the shoes for shipping. This was such an incredible lesson for them.
With the help of friends and our community we donated 329 pairs of shoes and $230.00 cash for new shoes to be purchased for those in need.
