Lately Evan has been showing lots of interest in writing, so we are going with it. When he shows interest in something, I try to take it as my prime opportunity to teach, and hopefully be creative while doing so.
We have a couple of wipe off numbers books that we have had around the house but haven't actually sat down to do. Over the past week Evan has been requesting to take these books in the car, to the store, wherever we go. So I agreed. I haven't paid much attention to it but knew it was keeping him occupied during car trips, which was nice for me. Tonight I decided to look through it and discovered that he has totally been learning to write his numbers.
Today while Calum was napping (A.K.A Mommy and Evan time) we went outside to enjoy the 70 degree springtime weather. We started with street hockey, rode bikes, ate salt and pepper popcorn (our new favorite snack..thanks Brandi), and then moved on to the sidewalk chalk. How impressed I was that with some direction and teaching Evan was able to write 1 through 10. Of course Mommy had to take it one step further and challenge him a little. So we did 22, 33, 44, 55, 100.
I have focused so much on helping him write letters, but I guess he decided he was moving on to new and more exciting things. It is so much fun to watch him learn new things, to gain new skills, and then to feel so proud. His whole world is wide open, so much to see, so much to learn, and so much to teach me. If only I could be as excited as he is about learning new things.
I love the look on his face. This is Evan's I am really concentrating on doing something look. The funny thing about this look is that Daddy has this exact look when he is intently doing something.

It sure is exciting! No shortage of brains with Mr. Evan:)
Great job Evan! Those numbers are fabulous. I too love to see the look of pride in their faces when the master something new. Owen was giving Aaron a fit yesterday afternoon to draw with the sidewalk chalk...problem is, it was raining and had been for the last 4 days.
How exciting. He looks older all of a sudden, too! He holds the chalk like a pencil too. Wow.
Such a big boy and so smart!
PS: I so envy your green grass. Here is still winter! Agrrrrr!
How exciting! I am impressed too! He does look more grown up too.
Good job Evan. Hey is he a lefty like his cousin Jordan? Jordan learned everything quickly too except how to tie his shoes. In my mind it's a lefty thing. He still has his shoes come untied to this day before he has to go up to bat. LOL
how awesome is that??
pretty sure there is nothing more fun than practicing numbers with sidewalk chalk!
this is awesome!!
I see he is a lefty - he will have a hard time with some letters and numbers - both my girls are lefties - and my daughter has some writing issues - another mom told me the same thing
