Wordful Wednesday and My Preschooler

Angie over at Seven Clown Circus is hosting her second Wordful Wednesday.

Check out her blog to see who else is playing.

Evan on his first day of preschool

Mommy, Evan, and Calum

Evan and Mrs. Spencer

Today was Evan's first day of his second year of preschool. We did have the clinging and squeezing Mommy's leg upon arrival, but after the teacher peeled him off my leg and picked him up so he could wave good-bye to Mommy and Calum while looking out the window, he had a great day.

I of course have been prepping him for the last week, which honestly I have no idea if it helps or hinders. Last night before bed he was so anxious thinking about school, it took lots of talking and some crying before he finally went to bed.

Evan had a great day, and was riding bikes and playing with his pals when I arrived to pick him up. Today they learned about the letter "i", talked about insects, and even used a microscope to look at various insects.

When I asked him about his day, it went something like this.

Mommy: Evan, tell me about your first day of school. Did you have fun?

Evan: Yes Mommy, I didn't cry, and I didn't talk. I was just quiet.

I am having fun with this stage, and love that he can express his feelings, recall his day, and even share details about his day that I didn't already know. He told me which kids were there from last year, and told me about some new kids too. He even told me what he had for snack.

I am so proud of him! I was so hoping it would be a great first day with no tears, and fun times to report.

And it was!

I think he did great. Just the fact that he came home and was rarin' to play outside with the girls is impressive to me. Let's compare today with Thursday when I bring my 3 cranky pants girls home. Save me!

Good job, Evan on a great first day! Very cool that they got to use a microscope. Is Evan much into bugs? Glad to hear it went well. Does he go every day or just a few days a week?

Too funny about you reading Sac Parent mag too...I have an article in this month's issue and am working on another one. :) What a coincidence that you are in the area!

I have pictures like that of all the boys on their first days of school. They end at about the 8th or 9th grade (I think 5th with Jordan, he's special LOL)...
For some reason Joey wouldn't take one on the first day at Delta. Hmmmm.... Good job Evan!!!

My little guy isn't going to preschool until next year, but I am already nervous for him...and me.
It seems like he did great and I am sure it will only get better.

Way to go Evan!! Happy first day. Jessica, I feel for you Mama. It is hard when your little guy has such a hard time. My oldest was that way and I would just stand outside in tears. They do usually outgrow it. Mine did:)

It sounds like you did an excellent job of preparing the little guy. He was proud of himself too and took it all in. It was use he said he didn't talk.
