After 36 hours of asthma, we solved the mystery. Who would ever think to check the ingredients of the orange juice your giving your child for traces of peanuts??? Not me, and I have become what I thought was an expert at this since Evan is so allergic. I was just simply doing what I always do, buying what was on sale. After all is it Minute Maid!
If you look closely at the bottle it says "Proven to help Reduce Cholesterol". If you look even closer at the tiny print on the back of the bottle you will find that one of the ingredients was plant sterols, which if you look even closer are derived from highly refined vegetable oils such as soybean or peanut. I never knew being a parent, meant being a detective too.
Luckily after a full day of drinking orange juice with plant sterols derived from peanut oil , and pumping Evan full of all his asthma medicines, Geoff for some crazy reason decided to read what was in this cholesterol reducing o.j. and solved the mystery.
So our night consisted of what felt like endless coughing, benadryl, lots of breathing treatments followed by leg rubs (because of the effects of the albuterol), and saline in his nebulizer (which always seems to help), we are cough/asthma free. Here I was trapping my Evan indoors thinking it was the bad air that was causing yet another asthma flare up....
Who would have ever thought it could have been the orange juice???
Go Daddy!!!

Oh my gosh, that's crazy. Good job Geoff in reading the label...I'd never of thought to do that. I hope Evan has a much better day today. Poor little guy going through so much.
Wow, I would have never thought Orange Juice would have any type of peanut in it. That is somthing you would think would be more prominent on their label. I hope Evan is feeling better. I rember my nieces asthma attacks and the treatments. I know it's no fun.
